Care Partner Training: Week #3
- On May 17, 2017
Our Mission: Supporting and guiding people with Christ-centered care as they navigate through change in every season of life.
Week #3: Training
Topic: The Art of Listening in Caregiving: Trainees will learn how to become effective at using listening skills to help Care Receivers explore content, feelings, and spiritual concerns regarding current challenges in their lives.
Our Mission Statement
Do you know our Care Ministry Mission Statement?
Practice memorizing this statement and be prepared to recite it in class. You never know; you may just win a prize for knowing it! (hint, hint)
Did You Know…
• Less than 2% of people have had any formal training on how to listen.
• Words are processed by our short term memory where we can only retain about 7 bits of information at a time. This encouraged the formation of our 7 digit phone numbers.
• Images go directly into long term memory. It is easier to show a circle than to describe one.
• Listening skills are poorest when people interact with those closest to them. They interrupt and jump to conclusions more frequently.
Prayer Partner
When you have the opportunity to call or get-together with your Prayer Partner, make sure to work on your listening skills. Truly listening as someone shares with you says you value that person and that you care.
